Caring for your smile is important for your health and appearance, but not everyone enjoys dental treatments. If you avoid dental care due to anxiety, you could be risking your oral health. At Scott A. Babin, DDS and Associates in Edmonds, and Renton, WA, we want all our patients to feel relaxed and comfortable when visiting us for their dental care. We offer sedation dentistry options for patients who need help relaxing when receiving their dental care.

Many people feel uneasy when receiving dental treatments. Some people have had poor experiences in the past, and others have a sensitive gag reflex or a phobia of dentists. Whatever the reason, if you are uncomfortable when receiving dental treatments, we have solutions. Sedation options, like nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation, can improve your experience when visiting our office for dental care.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you have mild to moderate dental anxiety or you will be undergoing a more invasive procedure, oral conscious sedation is an option. This sedation method uses an oral medication that you take before your dental appointment which allows you to relax deeply during your treatment. Since the medication can impact your motor skills, you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.

Nitrous Oxide

For mild anxiety or to relax your mind during dental care, nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas,” is an excellent sedation method. This relaxing gas has been used safely for decades to allow dental patients to feel more comfortable during their visits. This mild sedative wears off within minutes once you stop inhaling the gas, making it safe to use if you need to drive after your visit to our office.

Do not let dental anxiety or other discomfort keep you from getting the dental care you need for oral and overall health. Contact us at Scott A. Babin, DDS and Associates in Edmonds, and Renton, WA, to discuss our sedation dentistry options for your next visit.
